COGAN STATION - Ernest E. “Ernie” Baker, 94, died on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Williamsport Home.

He was married to the late Kathryn E. (Schoffstall) on March 2, 1940 and they had celebrated 75 years as husband and wife until her death on December 19, 2015.

Ernest was born in Lewisburg on November 10, 1921 and was the son of the late Harry Ernest and Miriam Iva (Kratzer) Baker.  He joined the US Navy in 1943 during WWII and was discharged in 1944 from the Naval Construction Training Camp, VA, where he trained as a Navy Seabee.  Ernie worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road and retired after thirty years. He also retired from Rathmell's City Dray Line and New Penn Trucking after driving truck for thirty years. During his retirement, he became a pastor.  Along with his late wife and several others, they founded Zion Trinity Church, where he had pastored for many years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and one of his passions was model railroading.

Ernest is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; William D. and Judy Baker of Cogan Station, Robert L. and Clara Baker of Nisbet and Dean R. and Karen Baker of Pompano Beach, FL, three daughters and two sons-in-law; Bonnie L. Bunce of Montoursville, Kathy A. and Max Furman of Elimsport and Susan J. and Lloyd “Jack” Furman of Cogan Station, 24 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and one brother; Jack Baker of Cogan Station.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two grandsons; Mark Bunce and Daniel Getgen, one son-in-law; Gary Bunce and one sister; Peggy Corl.

There will be a public viewing 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 and again 1 – 2 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport, where the funeral will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Max W. Furman officiating the services.  Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park.
