Joan Romanko Obituary

WILLIAMSPORT - Joan M. Romanko, 84, passed away Sunday January 27, 2019 at the Williamsport Home.  Joan was born December 22, 1934 to Paul and Ann (Baloga) Wendrychowicz in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  She grew up in Wilkes-Barre, and graduated from high school and business school there.  On November 24, 1955 she married Theodore J. Romanko, her husband of 63 years.

Joan was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Williamsport serving in the choir and the Women’s Guild as well as volunteering in other areas.  She enjoyed swimming, boating, music and travelling, she also was a faithful volunteer at Divine Providence Hospital, and a member of the hospital’s auxiliary.  She was able to retire in 1996 after working as a secretary in Divine Providence’s educational department.

She is survived by her devoted husband Ted Romanko of Williamsport; three daughters:  Marion (Douglas) Cline of Mechanicsburg, Jane Romanko and fiancé Larry Andrews of Williamsport, and Luann (Peter) Kangas of Harrisburg; a grandson:  Daniel (Caitlin) Cline of Winston-Salem, NC; a granddaughter:  Rachel Kangas of Harrisburg; a brother:  Paul (Jaqueline) Wender of Palo Alto, CA; a sister:  Audrey (Gerald) Greeley of Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Joan’s life Friday February 1, 2019 from 6-8pm and again Saturday February 2 form 9-9:45am at the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation and Funeral Service 500 West 4th Street Williamsport, PA 17701.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Saturday February 2 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Fr. John Victoria officiating.  Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.  The family asks those wishing to make a donation in Joan’s name to remember the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association 9378, 2595 Interstate Dr suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.  Those wishing to share a memory or condolence are invited to visit www.jamesmaneval.com
