Robert William Matz

WILLIAMSPORT - Robert William Matz, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the age of 83 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease at Manor Care South.  He was born to George and Alice Matz April 23, 1934 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. 

Robert was a local business man in Williamsport. Prior to that, he worked in Michigan, applying his knowledge of law in zoning and commercial real estate.  Robert held a law degree from The University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree from Penn State University, where he was active on the track and field team.

Outside of work, Bob was active with the community.   He coached and refereed soccer matches and attended local art gatherings and musical events equally.  Bob also enjoyed walking and spent much time appreciating local architecture and socializing with others.  As active gardener, Bob grew flowers and vegetables.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his three sons; Stephan (Angela), Erich, and Karl (Jennifer); and eight grandchildren, all of whom will remember him well as a loving raconteur and as a willing participant in play.  Service will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2017 at St Luke Church--visitation at 10:00 and service at 11:00.  In lieu of gifts, donations may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church in his name.   

Arrangements are being handled by the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport.
