Susan Elaine (Frey) English

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT - Susan Elaine (Frey) English, 65, passed away peacefully just after midnight on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at UPMC Susquehanna, surrounded by her loving children Shawnalee and Andrew Hughes and Jason and Peggy English.

Susan is also survived by her only grandchild, Kaelee Elaine Hughes, who was the light of her life.  If you spent any time at all with Susie, you soon heard all about her beautiful, smart and long-awaited granddaughter.  After her beloved dog Miki passed away in March 2017, it was Kaelee that brought the joy back into Susie’s life and put a smile back into her heart.

Susan was born on May 30, 1952 in Williamsport to Robert C. and Elizabeth E. (Miller) Frey, Sr. who predeceased her.  She grew up the middle of three children; having both an older brother, Robert (Mary) Frey and a younger brother Keith (Tina) Frey.  She was a 1970 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and attended State Beauty School.  After nearly 34 years of working at the company first known as AVCO, Susan retired in the fall of 2011 from Lycoming Engines (Textron).

Earlier in her life, before her health conditions became too encumbering, Susan was very socially active.  She was a multiple year Past Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star, Williamsport Chapter # 321 and was a Past District Deputy Grand Matron District 10-B of the Pennsylvania Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star as well.  She was most recently a member of Watsontown Chapter # 282.  Susan was also active in the American Business Women Association Golden Oak Chapter, having served as the group’s vice president and president before being named “Woman of the Year” in 1994.

If you knew Susie, it wasn’t very hard to figure out what she loved; her family, her dog Miki and Mickey Mouse-and in that order-most days.  One of her most favorite memories was when she went to meet Mickey Mouse in 2006.  When she first spotted that famous mouse in a parade, she cried like a child.  About 45 minutes later when she spotted the line to meet him, she walked right away from her family without telling anyone where she was going.  Nearly 30 minutes later, Susie was found smiling ear-to-ear having had her own one-on-one time getting her picture taken with “her Mickey.”

Sue was the type of person who would give you the shirt off her back or listen to you until you’d said all you needed to get off your chest. She was the friend you always had when you were in need.  She was an amazing mother and will be sadly missed for a very long time.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday April 7, 2018 at Balls Mills United Methodist Church, 5941 Bloomingrove Road Cogan Station, PA 17728, with a visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am, a service to follow, and then an intimate gathering, all in the church.  A private burial will be held by the family.  The family requests that memorial donations be made in Susan’s name to the Lycoming County SPCA.
