WILLIAMSPORT - Alvin C. Bush, 93, departed to be with his Lord on February 8, 2017.

He was born in Philipsburg, PA January 22, 1924 to Congressman Alvin Ray Bush and Lucinda Mattern Bush. A member of the Williamsport High Classof 1941, he went on to graduate from UNC Chapel Hill which inspired a lifelong Tarheel loyalty. Alvin's higher education was interrupted by service to his nation, as a Lieutenant Gunnery, Navigation and Executive Officer on the Landing Ship Tank (LST 025) in numerous naval engagements all over the the Pacific Theatre. After returning from the war, he found and married his eternal love and companion Elizabeth Louise Crooks. Together they accomplished their courtship dream, having four children: Charles (Carmen), Cindalyn, Karen, and Michael (Tera) who in turn added ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Alvin settled in Muncy Township with Betty and soon became an active businessman. He followed his father as General Manager of Williamsport Transportation Company and later founded three automotive dealerships. He also operated his parents' dairy and crop farm, Wyno Farms in Muncy Township, and was a five-term President of Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders Association. During his life he served on numerous civic and charitable missions.

First elected to the State Assembly in 1960 by his neighbors in the 84th District, Alvin accrued broad governmental experience in leadership positions of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Legislative Reference Bureau, Senate Staff and Bill Scranton's 1964 Presidential Campaign.  As a conservative conservationist, ACB was proud to represent most of Lycoming County during two ten-year spans. That experience allowed him to sponsor many pioneering Pennsylvania laws, including the first Strip Mine Control, Clean Water, Legislative Ethics and Consumer Protection Acts.  Later he directed staff toward converting Pennsylvania to an elected Attorney General, establishing the Independent Crime Commission and statewide Grand Juries. At the end of his public service, he was pleased to lead the Independent Regulatory Review Commission, which he had sponsored to create nearly 50 years earlier. Yet Alvin always felt that the capstone of his career was passing the legislation which set the Pennsylvania College of Technology as a gem in the Penn State crown. He was immensely honored to serve as Chairman of its Board for ten years as it grew in its mission.  Alvin's faith was never shaken through all of life's reversals, he was a rapt storyteller and deployed his sharp wit to tease all those close to him. Early in life he invested himself in photography, watercolors landscapes, and oil portraits and loved hours spent fly-fishing by the streams of Pennsylvania.  After retirement, he turned his passion for farming into landscaping an old spring-sodden farm near Brookside into a family treasure with his dear Seitzer cousins. Late in life he drew immense pleasure from regular Sunday gatherings and from planning the rebirth of the family home, "The Bush House," as a site to gather and celebrate.

Alvin was preceded in death by his cherished wife Betty and grandchildren Nathaniel and Casey. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Eck (John), his children, grandchildren Tracy, Jacqueline, Laura, Rachel, Catherine, Jesse, Brian & Madeline.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Bush Family Scholarship at the Penn College Foundation, One College Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to Valley View Nursing Center, 2140 Warrensville Rd., Montoursville, PA  17754, in recognition of the tender care of their remarkable staff.

There will be a public visitation 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine St., Williamsport where the funeral will begin at 12:00 p.m. (Noon).  Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy with military honors.
