MONTGOMERY - Bernard William "Curly" Kerwell, 85, died on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Watsontown Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born on March 7, 1930 in Montgomery and was the son of the late Ray W. and Hazel (Wertz) Kerwell, Sr. He had worked as a truck driver, farmer, bartender, worked at AVCO and retired from Grumman. Bernard enjoyed farming, canning, making sauerkraut, attending antique machinery shows and driving around in his golf cart. He was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons; Bill (Julie) Vitacolonna of Crofton, MD and Ed (Heike') Vitacolonna of Rigby, ID, three daughters; Earin (Joe) Szczechowski of Williamsport, Bernette "Peanut" (Jack) Ardrey of Williamsport and Robin (Bob) Conway of Plains, nine grandchildren; Shanah, Nathan, Marc, Daniel, Lynnea, Emily, Samantha, Michael and Emily, four great-grandchildren, one brother; George Kerwell of Sayre and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother; Ray Kerwell, Jr. and one sister; Henrietta Staggert.
There will be a gathering of family and friends 2 – 3 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., 500 W. 4th St., Williamsport where the memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend John C. Staje, Jr. officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
