Bertha H. (Jenkins) Thompson, 97, of Elmira, New York, formerly of Williamsport, passed away on Sunday, December 08, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Williamsport on August 10, 1927, a daughter of the late James and Elbertha Jenkins.Bertha was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Williamsport. She worked in the cafeteria at Williamsport Area High School for many years. Bertha loved to bake. Bertha is survived by a son, Leroy H. Thompson; three daughters, Quinn M. Thompson, Gayle Richardson and Roberta Green; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; two sisters, Jammae Butler and Carolyn Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special acknowledgement and thank you to Bertha's grandson (Alexander Green) and nephew (Jahmiere Bell) who effortlessly and lovingly gave care to Bertha. In addition to her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Leroy W. Thompson and daughter, Anita Quartman. Also her sisters, Lela Stewart and Kathryn Bolden along with two brothers, Archie and Thomas Jenkins. A celebration of life service for Bertha will be held at noon on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 433 Walnut St., Williamsport, with Charles Stewart and Jonathan Hart officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a public viewing from 11am to noon on Monday at the church. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
