IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carole R.
(Mundy) Nottingham Matthews
May 3, 1941 – February 2, 2024
Carole R. (Mundy) Nottingham Matthews, 82, of Linden, passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2024, at UPMC Susquehanna.
Carole was born on May 3, 1941, in Williamsport, to the late Carl R. Mundy and Jeanne I. (Walters) Young. She was lovingly raised by her stepfather, John E. Young Sr.
Carole was a graduate of South Williamsport High School Class of 1960. She dedicated many years of her life to working at Savoy Furniture, where she made lasting friendships and contributed to the success of the company.
Outside of work, she had a wide range of interests that brought her joy. Carole was a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan and always cheered them on. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she never missed any of their sporting events. Carole cherished spending time with her family and found relaxation at her river lot. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling for the Moose, YMCA and ABC leagues, as well as creating beautiful floral arrangements.
As a member of the American Legion Post 36 in Jersey Shore and as the Senior Regent of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #214, Carole actively participated in community organizations. She was especially proud to have been pinned as the Senior Regent in Las Vegas.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, Carole was preceded in death by her first husband, James E. Nottingham Sr.; two sons, Richard F. "Rich" Matthews Jr. and James E. Nottingham Jr.; a sister, Anna Jean Bryan, and a sister-in-law, Kay Mundy.
Left to cherish Carole's memory are her sons, Kristian (Nicki) Matthews of Montoursville and James E. W. Nottingham; daughters, Heidi Hauke, Christel (Fred) Hamman both of Williamsport; and Linnea (Daniel) Delfine of Freeland; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Carl R. Mundy, John E. (Debbie) Young Jr., and Christopher (Tina) Young; her life partner of 40 years, George Hawkins of Linden; and her second husband, Richard F. Matthews Sr. of Williamsport. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
