TROUT RUN - Danie I. Smith, 77, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, February 4, 2017.

He was from Trout Run when he was born or at that time it was known as Kellyburg.

He was the born on August 12, 1939, at home, the son of the late Garrett B. and Bertha M. "Wettlaufer" Smith.
Danie was married to the former Norma J. Moon. They were together since 1968 and married on May 24, 2002.
He was a heavy machine operator and heavy mechanic for over 55 years having been to Oman and Saudi Arabia working on the pipelines with Willbros from Tulsa, Okla. and with his most recent employment of over 35 years being Susquehanna Supply Company before retiring in 2015. Although some may consider it retirement Danie was always ready to go back at a moments notice.
Danie was a veteran for the United States Army and served in the later end of the Korean War before being honorably discharged.
He was also a farmer and an avid hunter. He loved his many pets and enjoyed taking them on rides in his Kubota. He took pride in teaching his "buddy" (Garrett Jr) how to properly shake hands when greeting friends. He quite often lent his knowledge on the how to and the proper operation of equipment to many many friends and neighbors. Danie was a member of the Red Run Rod and Gun Club in Ralston, Pa. and the Marine Corp League Detachment in Ralston and a member of the American Legion.
Danie spent countless hours helping with the land men during the most recent natural gas exploration with his knowledge of the area and the land boundaries.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons, Wayne (Anesssa), George, Steven (Vickie), Garrett (Dr. Constance "Wilson") and Dominick; four daughters, Brenda (Matt Zwisle), Donna (Denny Hawkins), Sue and Danielle; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers Edward (Kay) and George (Anna) and a sister, B. Irene Smith.
Danie was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Smith; a son, Danie Jr. and many brothers and sisters.

In keeping with Danie's wishes there will be no formal services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation and Funeral Home.
