WILLIAMSPORT - Doreen C. (Buss) Free, 94, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

She was married to the late Jack I. Free on June 14, 1941.  They were married for 17 years until his death on June 30, 1958.

Doreen was born in Williamsport on March 20, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Edward and Carrie (Stabley) Buss.  She graduated from Williamsport High School.  Doreen had worked in the billing department at the Williamsport Hospital for many years, retiring in 1983.  She was a very active member of St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church, Williamsport.  She had done work with pet therapy through the SPCA, taking pets to various nursing homes, visiting patients up into her late 80's.  She enjoyed gardening, especially roses, and enjoyed cats.  She can best be described as being "always kind and willing to help others".

Doreen is survived by one son; Timothy B. (Doris) Free of Fishkill, NY, one daughter; Gay E. (Robert E.) Hoffman of Dover, two grandchildren; Amy J. (Brad) Crane of York and Chad R. (Cheryl) Hoffman of Chandler, AZ, and three great grandchildren; Michael D. Hoffman, Mitchell R. Crane and Cierra B. Crane.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister; Frances McCabe.

There will be a public viewing 2 – 3 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church, 1427 Memorial Ave., Williamsport where the funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m.  Pastor Jennett Wertz will officiate the service.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lycoming County SPCA or to her church.
