WILLIAMSPORT - Jane E. Straka, 96, died Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville.

Jane, the daughter of the late Grant and Thelma M. (Tompkins) Person, was born in Duboistown on June 16, 1920; worked in an aircraft factory during WWII; and retired from the PA Dept. of Agriculture in 1983.

She was a member of the Duboistown UM Church, Williamsport Loyal Order of Moose WOTM, and Top of the Hill, and she loved traveling with the Merry Makers, as well as dancing to Big Band music. Jane was fond of going out to eat, with desserts and sweets being her favorites.

She enjoyed caring for her home by doing her own repairs and yard work, and was noted for growing beautiful flowers and delicious tomatoes. Jane was also known for baking many cookies to share at Christmas. She was independent, priding herself on facing many challenges, including learning to use a computer at 86. People close to her knew her as spunky and social, and bingo was a special delight in her life, as were the many friends she met there. Jane also volunteered for local churches at their yard sales. While an avid collector of elephants and costume jewelry, Jane's greatest love was her family, her many friends, and the times they shared.

Jane is survived by her son, Michael J. Straka (Tammy) of Elizabeth City, NC; daughter Sandra Grafius (Joseph) of S. Williamsport; four grandchildren: Peter, Devon, and Martin Grafius, and Kelson Straka; and two step-grandchildren: Robbie and Trey Morton. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date, and any contributions may be directed to an animal rescue or other charity.
