WILLIAMSPORT - John Henry "JJ" James, 79, died on Monday, January 9, 2017 at his residence.

John was born in Reydel, Arkansas on February 22, 1937 and was the son of the late Henry and Ophelia (Brooks) James.  He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955 then graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute with a degree in printing.  He had worked at the former Eureka Paper Box Company for over 40 years and retired as a Press Foreman.  After retiring, he worked as a Ranger at White Deer Golf Course until 2016.  He was a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #207 and enjoyed golfing.

John is survived by his life partner of 39 years; Mary I. (Jackson) Whittington of Williamsport, one son; David Lee James and wife Tammie of Stroudsburg, one daughter; Sadie Mae James of Charlotte, NC, four grandchildren; Aaron David James of Williamsport, Mia Lynn James and Emma Leigh James, both of Stroudsburg PA and Shantel James Quezire of Charlotte, NC, one great-grandson; Devin Alexander Quezire, also of Charlotte, NC, one sister; Lorene Womack of Jamestown, NY, one uncle; John Brooks of Jamestown, NY, one niece; Jeanne Montrese of Minneapolis, MN and one great-nephew; Adonis Fraizer of Minneapolis, MN, two great-great nephews and  one great-great niece.

There will be a public viewing 11 a.m. – 12:00pm Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport.  Following the viewing an Elks service will begin at 12:00pm and the funeral following.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
