WILLIAMSPORT - Junior R. Markel, 82, was called to his eternal home on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

He was born June 1, 1941 in Winfield to the late Rufus and Verdilla (Chapel) Markel.

Junior graduated from Selinsgrove High School in 1959. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1966, during the Vietnam War Era. Junior had been a supervisor at Jim Walter Doors, BroDart and Rishel Furniture/HON Industries. He then decided to open his own business, Markel's Sharpening Service and worked for 34 years. Junior was a member of Dietrick Lamade Lodge #755. He was a hunter, fisherman and enjoyed nature.

Junior is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, the former Lorraine E. "Lori" Meeker; a son, Jeffery (Laurie) Markel of Suffolk, Virginia; a daughter, Elain Cronister of Tennessee; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy (Robert Driebelbis) Harvey of Sunbury.

In addition to his parents, Junior is preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Straub.

There will be a gathering of family and friends 2 - 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Maneval Allen Redmond Funeral Home, 500 W. 4th St., Williamsport where the memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
