Kayleigh M. Guthrie

WILLIAMSPORT - Kayleigh M. Guthrie, 16, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026 at UPMC Williamsport.

She was born on July 10, 2010 in Danville and was the daughter of Christopher J. Guthrie and Phylicia R. Tebbs.

Kayleigh Marie was the joy in her families lives. She was a fierce warrior from the day she was born. Kayleigh had a plethora of hospital stays and surgeries, many of which overshadowed birthdays and holidays. Through the thousands of pokes, prods, blood draws, and scans she stuck through it and came out stronger in the end with her dalmation dog Pongo, unicorn Uni, and chick Chica at her side. She surpassed everyone's expectations when after her cardiac arrest at 11 months old, she first was only given a few hours to live. That turned into 12 hours, then 24 and eventually made it 15 years. Kayleigh had many close calls but amazingly pulled out of every one of them.

She was a beautiful girl and had a beautiful soul. An inspiration to anyone who met her and a teacher to all. Her attitude could not be any more perfect with her eye rolls, stinky stares, and heavy sighs. She communicated in her own Kayleigh way. She had an amazing collection of hair bows that the PICU staff always expected whenever she had a stay. Her fashion was that of a diva and her hospital room was always made to look like home.

She loved the Chica show, Bluey, My Little Pony, Care Bears, Unicorns, Scooby Doo and Strawberry Shortcake. Kayleigh loved her brother immensely yet always seemed to just tolerate him the way normal older sisters do. If she could stay home and in bed that was her perfect place to be. Her hair was always done and her nails always painted. She never had a need for anything. She was whole heartedly loved and we will miss her spunky attitude, side eyes, and heavy annoyance sighs. The amount of people she has touched in her short 16 years is astronomical.

We are extremely thankful for the tremendous care and love that her Bayada nurses, staff and doctors at Janet Weis children's hospital PICU, and Children's floor. We would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. Notz, Laura Davis, and Cathy at Geisinger who have shown our girl the greatest care over the years. We will forever be thankful for your care and dedication.

Kayleigh is survived by her father; Christopher J. Guthrie (Elizabeth Flook) of Williamsport, mother; Phylicia R. Tebbs (Joshua A. McLaughlin) of Williamsport, one brother; Liam A. McLaughlin of Williamsport, maternal grandparents; Mark and Grayce Tebbs of Cogan Station and Julie Wooster of Williamsport, paternal grandmother; Donna L. Werner of Rochester, NY and grandfather; Charles McLaughlin of Linden. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather; James A. Guthrie, grandmother; Mary M. McLaughlin and step-grandfather; John M. Werner.

There will be a celebration of life service held at a later date.
