MONTOURSVILLE - Marlin A. Barnes, 81, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Loyalsock Creek Rehab and Nursing Center.
He was married on October 21, 1958 to the former Carolee G. (Goss), who survives, and they have celebrated 58 years as husband and wife.
Marlin was born in Williamsport on June 10, 1935 and was the son of the late Charles and Alma (Young) Barnes. After high school, he joined the US Army and served from 1953 – 1955. Once honorably discharged, he became a "Proud" Marine, joining the US Marine Corp and served from 1956 – 1959. "SEMPER FI" He became an employee of GTE Sylvania Montoursville where his co-workers knew him as Barney. He worked there for 26 years until it closed in 1989 in which that time he retired. Before his illness, he loved the game of golf and he was known as "Bop-Bop" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Carolee, he is survived by one son: Tom A. Barnes (Chrissy) of Hughesville, one daughter; Shelly L. Barnes of Montoursville, five grandchildren; Justin (Jen), Bill, Alec, Kyle and Ethan, four great-grandchildren; Lilly, Konner, Karson and Olivia, three brothers; Donald, Eugene and his twin brother Melvin and one sister; Virginia Harrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; George, Kenneth, Robert, Harold and sisters; Ada, Mary, Betty, Charlene and Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania, 3001 Gettysburg Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are being handled by Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport.
