Obituary

Mary Lee Thorne, born Mary Lee Gardner, on December 16, 1944, peacefully passed away on June 27, 2024, at Williamsport South Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Mary lived a life filled with joy.

Mary's journey on this earth spanned 79 years, during which she embraced each day with grace and resilience. She found fulfillment in her work as a cashier at Weis Markets on Lycoming Creek Road, where she brightened the days of customers with her warm smile and friendly demeanor.

In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the casino with her dear friend, Janet. In earlier years, she found solace in molding and painting her own ceramics, a creative outlet that brought her joy. Mary had a deep love for cats and cherished the moments spent with her late son, William A. "Bill" Sunday.

Mary was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Williamsport. She was baptized at the church in 1999.

Mary is now reunited with her beloved husband, Albert E. Thorne; her son William A. "Bill" Sunday; her parents William and Bernice Gardner, Sr.; and her sister, Ginny. She is survived by her grandchildren Tara Sunday of Trout Run and Brian (Tina) Reeder of Virginia; along with four great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; her brother William (Deborah) Gardner, Jr., her daughter-in-law Mary K. Sunday; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Williamsport, with Reverend Lauri Kerr officiating. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship at the parish hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Mary's honor to All Saints Episcopal Church at 1656 Scott St, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Arrangements were entrusted to Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home in Williamsport. Condolences for the family can be shared at www.jamesmaneval.com. Mary Lee Thorne will be deeply missed but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May her memory be a source of inspiration and comfort to those who mourn her passing.
