WILLIAMSPORT - William J. "Bill" Swinehart, Sr., 81, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

William was married to the former Virginia R. (Howlett) Swinehart , who survives, on October 5, 1957 and celebrated 58 years together.

He was born on September 8, 1934 in Williamsport and was the son of the late John and Mary E. (Nuneville) Swinehart.  He had graduated from Williamsport Area High School, class of 1954 and then graduated from Williamsport Area Community College with a degree in business.  William served with the US Army during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956.  He worked at Anchor Darling Valve from 1964 to 1997.

William was a member of the Good News Bible Church, UCT350 of Williamsport, Korean War Vets of Duboistown and wood carving class at the Senior Center.  He volunteered for the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and watching sports.

In addition to his wife Virginia, he is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law; William J. Swinehart, Jr. of San Antonio, TX, David L. Swinehart of Lords Valley and Stephen M. and Robin Swinehart of Muncy, two grandchildren; Benjamin S. and Alicia M. Swinehart, six sisters and one brother-in-law; Esther Thomas of South Williamsport, Sarah Howlett and Joann Collins, both of Williamsport, Stella and Stewart Shaffer of Duboistown, Florence "Flossie" King and Huldah King, both of Williamsport.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; John, Daniel and Charles Swinehart and one sister; Helen Shipman.

The memorial service; A Celebration of Life, will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Good News Bible Church, 24 East Third St., Williamsport (in the rear of the building) with pastor Dan Rockwell officiating.  There is elevator service for those who cannot use steps.  The Korean War Vets will provide military honors at the end of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 320 E. Third St., Williamsport.

Arrangements are being handled by the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, LTD. "A Life Celebration Home" 500 West 4th St., Williamsport.
