Brett Harrison, 63, passed away in his residence the week of May 8th. Originally hailing from Williamsport, Brett made Philadelphia his home. Brett was born on August 4th, 1958 to Dave and Rheta Harrison. He was and remains a loved brother to his siblings, a cherished uncle to all his nieces and nephews, and a devoted father figure to his cat, Simone.
Brett lived his life with passion, and he committed himself to a life of art. He was an accomplished author who wrote both for local publications and private works and who could capture the complexities and beauty of the human condition in a wide range of prose—from plays and stories to film reviews. With a remarkable memory and deep sensitivity, he could summon a meaningful quote and illustrate his points with heartfelt stories. He saw humor all around him and was often found expressing it on the stand-up circuit throughout Philadelphia. He was a music appreciator and a film buff who always had interesting facts and recommendations to offer.
Constantly searching and seeking, Brett was deeply caring and curious. His ability to summon a rich array of songs and biographies was legendary. Above all, he was kind; whether in the way he could chat honestly with anyone, or in the way he treated animals, his sincerity was always clear and forthcoming. To many, a mentor and a friend to all, Brett is already deeply missed.
The funeral services were held for Brett Scott Harrison at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 13th, 2022 at The Maneval Allen Redmond Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Ohev Shalom Cemetery. Upon the conclusion of internment, a traditional Shiva mourning period was observed at his sisters’ homes in Chicago.
