Obituary

Janet "Jeanette" VH. Outerbridge was born and raised in Philadelphia by her mother, Dorothy V. Granger and father, Ralph B. Granger. Jeanette had two brothers, Ralph and Robert; and one sister, Shirley (all of whom preceded her in death).

Jeanette graduated from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, then went on to receive her bachelor of arts from Moore Institute of Art and Design. Jeanette later met and married her first husband, David L. Van Horn, with whom she had a daughter, Sharon. After David’s death, Jeanette and her daughter relocated to California, where she taught art at the University of California, Berkely Campus.

Jeanette traveled to Bermuda, where she met Charles V. Outerbridge, a Bermudian man, who soon became her 2nd husband. In Bermuda, she worked as a freelance artist, and managed the Visitors Bureau in St. George’s.

Because of her love for travel, after her daughter graduated from college, she planned a wonderful trip for them to London, Dubai, and Singapore, where so many great memories were made.

Upon Charles’ death, Jeanette moved back to the U.S. to live with her daughter and her daughter’s family in Williamsport. Here, Jeanette was able to continue enjoying one of her greatest pleasures - traveling, by joining Carol and Bob Rice’s Merry Makers traveling group. Jeanette continued with her freelance artwork, while working as a designer for J&S Embroidery. Later, she worked for the Williamsport Bus Authority in their downtown office, until her retirement.

While in retirement, Jeanette moved to Nichols Court Apartments, where she made so many amazing friends, and found a Bible study group that was encouraging and nurturing to her.

Jeanette was a creative and gifted artist, who loved traveling, especially with her best mates, Kristina and Brianna. She is loved and will be truly missed by her daughter, Sharon Slacum and husband, Leslie Slacum; granddaughter, Kristina Slacum Jones and husband, Anthony Jones; great grandson, Ezra Jones; special granddaughter, Gabriel Kuenzi and her son, Corbin Kuenzi; niece, Daina Stanford; and best buddy, Tamika Bumpus-Freeman. Jeanette is loved and will be missed by all her New Jersey and Pennsylvania family and friends.

A celebration of life service for Jeanette will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with Pastor Belton Mobley.
