Melvin W. Kauffman, Jr., 87, of S. Williamsport, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020 at his son’s home in Milton.

He was born on October 18, 1932 in Williamsport and was the son of the late Melvin W. and Mabel M. (Hamilton) Kauffman, Sr.  He graduated from S. Williamsport High School in 1950.  Melvin was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, 5th Regiment, 1st Division where he was honorably discharged along with receiving the Purple Heart during the Korean War.

He was married to the former Virginia L. (Bryan) for 64 years before her death on October 30, 2016.

Melvin had worked for 42 years at Bethlehem Steel & Williamsport Wire Rope.

His memberships include; Life member at the 1st Ward Fire, Co. in S. Williamsport, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corp League, VFW Post 7863, American Legion Post 617 and the Korean War Veterans.  He was a former Armstrong Township Supervisor and he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and watching football and baseball.

He is survived by two sons; William L. Kauffman (Donna) of Huntersville, NC and Mark L. Kauffman (Sharon) of Milton, two daughters; Sharon L. Brown (Richard) of Williamsport and Kay L. Stroble (David) of S. Williamsport, eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one brother; George E. Kauffman of Frederick, MD, one sister; Rose M. Bullion of Williamsport and special friends; George Cline and Don Deisher.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Andrew E. Kauffman, Sr. and Daniel E. Kauffman, two sisters; Anna Mary Green and Mae Elizabeth Kauffman, grandson; William L. Kauffman, Jr. and great grandson; Case William Budman.

The funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. (noon) Friday, January 31, 2020 at the Maneval Allen Redmond Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport.  There will be a public viewing at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday.  Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
