Ronald G. Alkire, 88, of Williamsport, died at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY on Friday, June 11, 2021. He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on April 26, 1933, a son of the late Russell and Elizabeth (Barker) Alkire.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Alkire and his brother Russell Alkire, Jr.
Ron is survived by his children, daughter Shannon (Philip) Gingerich of Reedsville, PA and son Ronald G. (Beth) Alkire II, of Rochester, NY He is further survived by grandchildren, Heidi (Keith) Altiery, Kelli Gingerich, Sean (Ashley) Gingerich, Steven (Allison) Gingerich, Meghan (Matthew) Glover, Nicholas (Crystal) Alkire and Miranda Alkire. Great grandchildren are Tanner, Layla, Adriana, Mirra, Maci, Shane, Julian, Katie, Siena and Ross. He is also survived by a brother Jerry (Millie) Alkire of Florida and a sister Cindy Sakmar of Kansas.
Ron was a graduate of Arnold High School in 1951 and the Williamsport Technical Institute in 1961. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 during the Korean War. He then served in the Army Reserve until his Honorable Discharge in 1961.
He was a tool design engineer for Avco/Textron until his retirement. Ron was a member of the First Baptist Church in Williamsport. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and a past member of the Big A Hunting Club. Ron also was a life member of the Nittany Lion Club and an avid Penn State fan.
Ron loved hunting, fishing and golfing. His greatest joy in life was his time spent in Florida with family and friends.
Ron’s Life Celebration will be held Friday, June 18th at 11:00 am with visitation from 10:00-11:00 am at the Maneval Allen Redmond Funeral home, 500 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, PA 17701. Interment will take place with Military Honors, following the service at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.
