BLOOMSBURG - Jean D. (Gorney) Myers, 86, formerly of Williamsport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Emmanuel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danville, where she was a resident for the past three and a half years.

Jean was born on August 28, 1930 in Nanticoke and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Augustyniak) Gorney. She graduated from Nanticoke High School. Jean was married for 55 years to her childhood sweetheart, the late Raymond A. Myers, until his death in October 2005. Jean dedicated much of her adult life to raising her family of seven children. She later worked outside the home in several clerical positions, including serving as the secretary for the Curriculum Directors for the Williamsport Area School District, for 15 years prior to retiring in 1986. Jean was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg.  Jean was extremely creative and had many hobbies. In her earlier years, she spent her spare time learning and creating a wide variety of seasonal crafts, as well as sewing clothes for her children and dolls. In her later years, she enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and Barbie dolls. Jean was also well known for her “green thumb”, and could grow just about anything! She loved gardening in her private greenhouse and her yard was always lush and vibrant with color throughout the seasons.

Jean is survived by her seven children, who are named in order from the oldest to youngest: Donna J. Fosselman of Montoursville, Cathy J. Hobensack (husband, Scott) of Long Beach Island, NJ, Gary R. Myers (wife, Deborah) of Watsontown, Randy W. Myers (wife, Vicki) of Muncy, Brenda J. Monick (husband, John) of Bloomsburg, Dennis G. Myers (wife, Dawn) and Jeffrey J. Myers (wife Donna), both of Montoursville. She has been blessed with 14 wonderful grandchildren ranging in age from 24-40 years old. They include Patrick, Mitchell and Nicholas McMunn, Brian Hobensack, Stephanie (Hobensack) Shreckengast, Eric Hobensack, Kimberly (Myers) Hunter, Melissa (Myers) Stutzman, Laura (Myers) Treas, Amanda Schoffstall, Alyssa Schoffstall, Aaron Monick, Matthew Myers, and Angela (Myers) Rhone. At last count, Jean has 17 great-grandchildren ranging in ages from 9 months-old to 20 years-old. She also has three step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters; Theda Hildenberger, Tarpon Springs, Florida, and Nonee Siergiej, Birmingham, Alabama.

There will be a public viewing 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport where the funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m.  The Reverend Tim Hartzel will officiate the service.  A private family interment will be held in the Nanticoke Cemetery on Monday morning.
