WILLIAMSPORT - Grover A. “Sonny” Updegraff, 80, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Gatehouse.

He was married to the former Mary S. (Chapman), who survives, for 60 years.

Grover was born in Williamsport on July 7, 1937 and was the son of the late Grover Calvin and Gertrude Marie (Wilhelm) Updegraff.  He was a veteran that served with the US Navy as a Boasman and sailed on the USS Newport News, traveling through the Mediterranean and the Panama Canal.  He was Christian by faith and had worked for 10 years as a machinist for Stroman’s Bread, Williamsport then became an entrepreneur, owning and operating Climate Control for HVAC residential and commercial.  He was a member of the VFW, Post 1 and enjoyed traveling and loved his family.

In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by two sons; Michael G. Updegraff and John N. Updegraff, both of Williamsport, one daughter; Susan L. Boyd (Jim Boyd, Jr.) of Sierra Vista, AZ, six grandchildren; Michael Updegraff & wife Heather, Brittany Updegraff, Katherine (Boyer) Pence and husband Adil, Leonard Boyer, III and wife Katie, Emily Boyer and David Grover Boyer, eight great-grandchildren, four brothers; Rick Updegraff (Maryellen) of Cogan Station, Ed Updegraff (Judy) of Knoxville, TN, Charles Morehart (Pat) of Phoenix, AZ and Charles Stabley (Carol) of Loyalsock, six sisters; Mary Jane Updegraff Dolley (Loren) of Williamsport, Delores Hamilton (Will) of Linden, Linda Michaels (Gary) of Wallis Run, Deb Libby (Kevin) of Jersey Shore, Jo Ann Preisler (Steve) of York and Sandy Darrow of Florida and one sister-in-law; Patricia Updegraff of Mifflinburg.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother; Daniel Updegraff in 2005.

The graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport.
