Honoring Your Loved One with a Meaningful Funeral Ceremony

A funeral ceremony is much more than just a farewell. It's a time to share treasured memories, accept the loss of a loved one, and start the healing process. At Maneval Allen Redmond Funeral Home, we recognize that funerals are incredibly intimate occasions that capture the essence of the departed person's life and principles. For many years, we have been providing families in Williamsport, Trout Run, Montgomery, Muncy, Cogan Station, Linden, and South Williamsport with heartfelt tributes that respect each person and help them get through difficult times.

What Is a Funeral?

A funeral is an organized event where friends and family come together to honor the deceased, acknowledge death, and provide support to one another during a trying time. As a formal way to mark the end of one's life and assist the living in finding purpose, closure, and hope, funerals have been an integral part of human tradition for centuries. Funeral customs differ greatly depending on location, culture, religion, and individual preference, but they all serve the same functions: giving people a place and time to discuss the life of the departed, fostering memories, and providing a network of support when needed most. Funerals also give families the chance to affirm the continuation of life for those left behind and look for meaning in loss.

The Purpose and Benefits of Funeral Services

There are significant social and emotional advantages to the funeral service. According to research, meaningful funeral customs promote long-term healing and healthier grieving processes. One of the most significant coping strategies used by people is the gathering of loved ones to celebrate a life. Funerals offer a controlled setting for grieving and support. They help families come to terms with death by establishing an official marker—a moment that distinguishes "before" and "after." Funerals also affirm the deceased's worth to others' lives and respect their dignity.

Traditional and Contemporary Funeral Options

Not every funeral has the same structure. Many families value the traditional funeral structure, but some prefer cremation, memorial services, or celebrations of life. We design ceremonies based on the preferences, values, and wishes of your family.

  • Traditional Funeral with Viewing and Burial – Includes visitation, formal service, and graveside ceremony with multiple opportunities for people to pay respects.
  • Contemporary Memorial Service – Informal gathering emphasizing celebration of life with music, video tributes, and personal storytelling. Often held after cremation, offering flexible timing.
  • Graveside Service – Shorter ceremony at the cemetery, ideal for families preferring simplicity and direct closure.
  • Celebration of Life – Informal gathering with favorite foods, music, photos, and personal mementos emphasizing joy and memories.
  • Military and Veteran Services – Honors service with flag ceremonies and military honors recognizing their sacrifice.

Funeral FAQ

  • What is the difference between a funeral and a memorial service?

The body is usually present at a funeral (either in an open or closed casket), and there is frequently a formal ceremony, visitation, and either burial or cremation.  A memorial service, by contrast, takes place without the body present and often occurs after cremation.  Memorial services give loved ones a meaningful place to come together to support one another and share memories, but they also give more flexibility in terms of timing and location.

  • Can we personalize our funeral service to reflect our loved one's personality?

Absolutely. We specialize in personalized ceremonies that honor each individual's unique life and values. Whether through custom video tributes, meaningful music selections, personal mementos, special readings, or unique ceremony elements, we work with your family to create a service that truly reflects who your loved one was. We can blend traditional elements with contemporary touches to create the perfect tribute.

  • How much does a funeral service cost?

The services and options you choose will affect the cost of the funeral.  We are pleased to work with families on all budgets and provide reasonably priced funeral packages beginning at $7,695.  We can alter the plans so that they only include the services you select.  Family Shield Credit also offers financing options with low monthly payments and a 36-month payback period without prepayment penalties.

  • Can we have a funeral service if we're choosing cremation?

Yes. Prior to cremation, many families decide to hold a conventional funeral service. Others would rather have the cremated remains present at a memorial service afterwards. A committal service may also be held at the final disposition site. With cremation, you can arrange a meaningful ceremony at any time that is most convenient for your loved ones and family.
